This disease has been going around since the time of Hippocrates circa 460-370 BC when his written accounts previously called it ‘peripneumonia’ with familiar symptoms e.g. fever, cough, and chest pain.


It affects a wide range of age groups from as early as 2 years old to as old as 65 or older. This is an infection caused by various organisms such as bacteria, viruses, and fungi. It involves either one or both lungs, referred to as Lobar or Bilateral. Pneumonia is acquired in different environments: community, hospital, health care, and even through aspiration.
